The Portuguese Institute for Blood and Transplantation (Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transplantação – IPST) was established with the mission of ensuring and regulating the activity of transfusion and transplantation medicine, donation, procurement, testing, processing, preservation, storage and distribution of human blood, blood components, organs, tissues and cells of human origin. Within our mission, IPST is also responsible for the National Biovigilance System and management of the National Public Blood Cord Bank.
